Italy gives me life

***Disclaimer: I’m going to be blogging as if I wrote these posts the day of. Heehee Thanks again for being patient with me friends and fam<3***

~Tivoli/Games~ (04/04/15)

“Hey now, hey now. This is what dreeeaams are made of!”
I haven’left this beautiful city since I got here, so I was a bit nervous leaving for Tivoli. But, I went with a bunch of other people that I’ve met here on the program so the fear of getting lost was kept to a minimumGetting to Tivoli was a slight struggle but shoutout to Mitchell for being the MVP and head chief for this trip. Anyways, we took a bus to the metro then from the metro we took another bus so.. commute time was roughly 2 hours. Not too shabby!

We get to Tivoli and I’m ridiculously hungry so My finds this little Italian deli on yelp called “_____”. It was delicious, probably the best panino I’ve had thus far in Italy. ‘twas made of black bread (I don’t remember what its called), salame, and truffle cheese. My goodness, that truffle cheese was heaven on earth. I can taste it in my mouth as I type this right now. Haha I also ordered the Italian version of jerky, I believe it’s called porchetta? Seasoning was mos’def on point cos it was spicy but had a baby hint of sweetness

I guess we took too long for lunch so we met up with the bigger group inside Villa d’Este. My gosh. This place was amazing. More than 150 fountains… The walk through of the house was gorgeous as hell. I honestly can’t give much info because, unfortunately, I didn’t take a tour of the place the only thing I can say was this villa was the perfect scenery to take beautiful pictures and admire a different type of art.

Here are some amazing pics we were able to snap from our trip…

*shoutout to My for taking a bomb ass picture of me which can be found on my IG*

We got back home around 9ish. (heehee I called my Rome apartment home ;) cos it honestly does feel like it nowAnd for some odd reason we decided to play kings cup and people got pretty wasted. Haha I was on a great level of course! I made people food and adopted another daughter. Which isn’t surprising anyway. I feel like Melody is Erin’s twin, just born 2 years later haha Essentially people got ratchet for no apparent reason.   I missed Phi formals. I’m pretty sad about it but I’m thankful my pledge sisters printed a picture of my face out and took pictures with that. So, it’s kind of like I was there haha. They’re honestly the best. And to my lil sis, I’m really sorry I couldn’t be there for your formals or that I didn’t do memory pages… I’m terrible. But, I know you know I love you with all my heart.

~Happy Easter~ (04/05/15)

So, Erin and I didn’t wake up in time for mass at the Vatican. We didn’t even make it to get blessed by the Pope. We suck. And… it was also pouring cats and dogs outside. I def don’t have a sturdy umbrella to be going around in that rain. But, we still made our way to St. Peter’s Square just to see it on Easter. We got a little lost so I was trying to use my broken italian to ask for directions. Observations: the vatican is called vaticanaAfter taking a few cute pics, we decided to find a place to eat pizza because it’s apparently the best around the Vatican. We find this little place and it’s not pretty pricey. Erin ordered a toasted sandwich and it was not the business. LOL She was ridiculously upset. I ordered a margherita pizza because there’s no way you can mess that up and it wasn’t too bad. Got the owner to cut the price of the meal in half because it was that bad haha Afterwards we got ourselves these umbrella’s that are the definition of keeping you dry.

~AYCE Chinese/Japanese Food~ (04/06/15)

Today is a national holiday! Everyone get’s the day off except me. I still had school.. Blegh. My teacher hates us. Anywayz!

Italians take time eating their food and they have 3 course meals for every meal. I definitely do not each that much. Oh, and people don’t order tap water here.. Which kinda sucks. I don’t remember if I talked much about this but they don’t tip here either. Eating is completely different. However, I think I got ordering food down! (posso avere...”

It’s not that I don’t like Italian food… I love it! I just don’t like eating pasta, pizza and bread for every meal. Everything starts to taste the same. Not to mention, the variety of foods here isn’t great. You have to look for other foods. Luckily, there’s this cute/fancy-ish Chinese place across the street from our apartment. So, before class today… Mel and I decided to get All You Can Eat chinese/japanese food. Later, Erin, My, and Mitch joined us. But, holy fxck, this was sooo good. If you know me, you know that my favorite food is a tie between Japanese and Mexican. I definitely had my sushi fix! So, now I’m on a mission to find a burrito!!

During Art Crime, we learned about this connoisseur named John Beazley, who created the classification system to identify attic, greek vases. Archeologists and art historians still use this system. But, basically its just eyeballing specific details on a vase and identifying that with a particular time period or artist. With his system, you can look at a nose of the painting on the vase and go “Oh Euphonious made this” or “Oneimos definitely decorated this”. We later got to talking about how he perfected his classification system. I can’t help but be a little skeptical here. How can you perfect your method of idtentifying these antiquities if 1) you created the method and 2) no one else has challenged it? Idk, just a few thoughtsHaha But, Beazley is the homie for sure.

~Traveling Tips~ (04/07/15)

So, when and if you find yourself in Europe and you’re looking to buy cheap flights to other countries, utilize skyscannerryanair, and easyjetBuuuuuuut when you are looking for flights, please make sure you’re looking at the prices in dollars or euros… and don’t make the stupidest mistake and buy your flights in pounds. Please note the difference between the euro and pound signs. *sigh

~Clubbing~ (04/08/15)

I went out clubbing in Roma for the first time! It was pretty fun. We, being the little dare devils we are, went to the club the ACCENT center told us to avoid, haha. But, it was fun nonetheless. The people on this program are really starting to grow on me!

~Tickets to see the Pope~ (04/09/15)

I'm sad about not being able to see Pope Francis but Erin is devastated. We heard that he comes out on Wednesdays at 10am so we were able to score some tickets for the papal audience. WHOOOO! Unfortunately, it's not a mass. He just comes out to bless everyone and guess who's about to get some rosaries blessed. I'm so excited.

Thanks for reading! :) More coming soon...
